Progress
Matt and I have both figured out how to feed both babies solo... it's entertaining and takes awhile, but it is doable. Sammy is a challenge to get food into, but we're slowly figuring her out.
We've decided that we need to win the lottery so we can be full time parents. I love it, Matt loves it, and the girls are just fantastic.
They are both growing so much already, though we're keeping an eye on the weight gain. Abbie already has some eye issue that we're going to have to give her antibiotic drops for it. Basically it's probably an infected tear duct of sorts as both eyes keep gooping up when she's sleeping. We were hoping it would just go away, but that didn't happen.
Anyway, we're doing well, and have enjoyed the visitors. Matt was able to take them into work last week, and I'd like to this week... we'll see.

Otter the Dog
Our First Baby, Otter the Dog had to meet the girls on Sunday the 23rd. We took the girls upstairs with me, and let her in the house to get all her excitement out. When Otter was calm enough, we introduced her.
She did great! Otter would go up and smell them, but not lick or anything. Her ears were pinned back a bit as she knew she had to be careful. She liked them, but was very caring in her approach. It's like she knew what was happening.
Being around a few more days has helped what she does. She likes to be around everyone, but is also thoroughly annoyed at waking up every two hours like we do for the feedings. There's a few pictures we have of her hanging out with the girls.
We also posted a few pics where Abbie and Sam are dressed the same. No, we're not doing it all the time, but every now and then is pretty cute. Plus, there's only so many preemie clothes that fit them now.
Anyway-- in all this adventure, I also found out how great a father Matt is going to be. He's all over the feedings/changings etc. and is one of the best swaddlers I've ever seen. It's crazy! He surprised himself with these "new skills" that he didn't know he had.
We're a little tired and have to ask each other a few times, now "who do you have?" in the middle of the night for changings/feedings. Hopefully this gets a little better, but we know it's challenging for the first bit. We have great family and friends helping with meals... one day at a time.

Whew...
Time is going by way too fast already. The girls are four days old and it only seems like hours. I guess that is what happens when you have so much to do all the time! It's craziness, but I love it. Matt and I are exhausted, but happy, so there's nothing to complain about.
We had a check-in with the nurses for "how things are going"... girls are great, but we have to feed them more. It gets challenging since Sam likes to sleep all the time, but we're working on it.
The first night was really hard to get through,but the second night went better -- with more of a routine that we figured out. Over time we hope this will improve.
Today we realized we forgot to eat any food until lunch at 1:30pm so that's our newest thing. We have to remember to feed ourselves and drink fluids... otherwise my milk will never come in, plus we need the energy. One thing at a time. The strangest thing about it though--is that neither of us really felt hungry. Weird. Two little girls changed our priorities pretty quick.
After the docs appointment we went to Whole Foods for lunch and then even to Carter's in North Bend for more preemie onesies. Who knew two kids could make so much laundry?? And who knew that everywhere you walk around, people will come up to you and ask you questions about twins. Seriously--we heard from 5 people about their twins stories in Whole Foods and all we were there to get was some deli food. I guess it comes with the coolness factor of twins :)

O dear
I think I'm getting nervous.
I'm going to be a mom for the rest of my life starting Thursday. WOW.
Matt and I keep wondering what they will look like.
Our guess is: dark hair/dark eyes for both. Matt's nose and lips. Not sure on the ears. Kinda fun to talk about, but really exciting that we will see them soon.
I've never had a surgery before (unless you count my finger when I was 5 and wisdom teeth), so a C-section is interesting to me. I'm hoping recovery goes quickly because I'm tired of laying around.
Mom and Dad are coming! I'm excited they will be here, as each grandparent can hold their own grandchild! HAHA!!

DrumRoll Please...
Whew, what a whirlwind of doctors appointments (four of five days this week!).
But, we found out some great stuff.
Yes, babies are growing which is fantastic. No they are not growing very much.
Abigail is just over 5 lbs, and Samantha is just under 5 lbs.
We don't think Samantha has the strength to make it through a vaginal delivery, so I have to have a c-section. That's very common for twins though.
Yes, they look fantastic in terms of what babies are supposed to do...so we decided when to have the C-section.
OFFICIALLY PLANNED C-SECTION IS THURSDAY, 8/20 at 12:30pm (pacific time zone).
Hooteray!! Of course, they could want to make it more exciting and attempt to make their entrance early, but we're not expecting that. Or the scheduled time could open up at the hospital, but it's pretty busy, so we're not expecting that either.
The irony? All the teachers at work go back the same day I'm delivering twins!!

Babies sooner than later??
Doc's appointment yesterday went well. The babies are moving, fake breathing, and doing all the good stuff that babies are supposed to do. We finally got a great picture of Samantha's profile, and I'll post once I find where Matt put it. We found out that we'll have another appointment on Thursday though to look at growth. Samantha is still pretty little, and we have to check to see where she's at then.
We went to the OB/GYN today and all is well. She got the report as well... and thinks the following. IF the growth measurements still show that the babies aren't growing as fast as they should be, then we're having a C-section on Friday. If the growth measurements are showing pretty good growth, then we can wait about another week. We'll probably still have to do a C-section since Samantha is so small and probably can't handle the stress of a vaginal delivery.
So, essentially Thursday 1pm is a huge appointment and generally takes awhile. I'll update once we find out what happens!! We could have 2 babies by Friday! Crazy.

Another day
I'm still pregnant at home on bedrest :) We're 35 weeks and 5 days. (36 weeks is Wednesday). I've only had to take the extra pills of tributalene twice since I've been home. I think all drugs stop on Wednesday no matter what. Granted, if the twins want out, they will make that known drugs or no drugs.
I've spent most of my time on the couch watching TV or reading. I've had a few babysitters to be around, just in case. Andrew, our neighbor Martha... Matt's here this weekend. Then Monday it's Lew and Tuesday Christin and family probably. Though we have to figure that out still as there's the Championship softball game for our co-ed league that Matt's still on. It might just be easier for me to go and watch him than anything... we'd be closer to the hospital.
Tuesday night my parents (upon my request) are being totally amazing and cut their vacation short to come over and watch me from Wed. onward. They might have the most exciting part. After that, if these girls don't come, then I think we're on our own...
I will say that I feel ready to have them now. I'm ready to be done being pregnant, however, I will do what I need to for them. Ooh, the sun is out, time for outside layin around!

I'm Home
Yes, we made it home safe and sound last night. It's great to be here and have my family back as well (including Otter). That's the best part.
Now we need food in the pantry and fridge since we've been gone so long!! HAHA....
No news except that I have a doc's appointment Monday afternoon, and another Tuesday afternoon. And I keep on my drugs as always...until 36 weeks. After that, we let it go!
It's so nice to be home.

Freedom for real?
I THINK I GET TO GO HOME TODAY!!! HOOTERAY!!
So far this morning all is well (i'm still on contraction drugs)... but, we just have to have an ultrasound to confirm that all is well, and then I'm going to be released to go home later this evening.
Granted, I'm still on bedrest, I have to have a sitter for all the time Matt is at work "in case something happens", and I'm still on the contraction drugs for one more week...
But, I no longer have to look at the same wall in one room of the hospital! Hooteray!
I guess whatever happens after this happnes, and we let it. The twins should do just fine since we made it to 35 weeks today!

Hospital Birthday
Yesterday was my 32nd birthday, and we spent it at the hospital.
It started as any other day I've had here-- since time and days are kinda screwy for me given that everything is the same everyday. Matt was here in the AM, then left to do some errands. I ended up taking a nap in the afternoon anyway.
But then, Matt's family came out w/ a real birthday dinner. Matt had gone over to their house to help set it up... Linda cooked it all up, and they packed it up to bring it here!. Shish-kabobs, beans, potato salad, fruit salad, etc... so yummy! And Matt had ordered a cake from Baskin Robbins since I wanted an ice cream cake. It was so cute with a little fishing scene on it.
Cards, family, and good food... it actually felt like a birthday!!
So thanks everyone, that was really well done, and much appreciated!
Then Matt had even brought Otter for me to see and pet, so that was great. We went on our wheelchair ride to the atrium and played a game of cribbage. Otter hung out with us.
It was a good day, given that it was at the hospital :)
I did need shot of tributalene for the first time in 48 hrs though... and I'm having some contractions now 8:30am Monday... so we'll just probably get another shot!
